ACRYLIC LOGO FEATURE WALLS

Dimensional acrylic wall signs and office logos are a very popular means of creating signage and when compared to metal signage, they are typically a more cost-effective method of production. There are many ways in which acrylic can be used to create office signs ranging from simple flat cut acrylic logos made from sheets of Perspex, to complex hand-fabricated three-dimensional acrylic signs.

As with most signs, the logo design itself and the size in which you’d like the logo to be will play an important role in how the logo is produced. If the logo or letters which make up the logo are too thin, small or intricate then this may mean they’re too complex to produce as chunky 3D built up letters, however more often than not the logo in this instance can be produce in a thinner flat cut material.

Types of Acrylic Logos and Lettering:

Acrylic as a plastic sheet material is produced in a range of thickness, colours and finishes. The acrylic can be formed, cut or fabricated to create many shapes and designs which is why it’s a great product to work with when it comes to sign making.

Although there are many ways in which acrylic can be manipulated to produce the desired design, acrylic logos are usually broken down into two main methods of production:

Flat Cut Acrylic Logos

The logo design is cut from a flat sheet of acrylic with the depth of the logo determined by the thickness of the sheet material used which usually ranges between 3mm – 20mm. The acrylic can then be painted in a specific colour, applied with a colour printed vinyl or produced in a pre-coloured acrylic to achieve the desired colour. The flat cut acrylic logo can then be mounted to a wall with either raised wall fixings so that it stands proud off the surface to produce a drop shadow, or the logo can be mounted flush to the wall to produce a subtle embossed raised effect.

3D Built-Up Acrylic Logos

The logo design is cut from a flat sheet of acrylic just like the above, however strips of acrylic are fabricated onto the sides of the letters to create the desired depth of the logo which usually ranges from 30mm – 170mm depending on the size of the logo. The 3D acrylic logos can then have vinyl applied to the logo, however more often than not, pre-coloured acrylic is used to achieve the colour of the logo needed. For this style of signage, the logo isn’t normally painted. The 3D acrylic logo can then be mounted to a wall with either raised wall fixings so that it stands proud off the surface, or the logo can be mounted flush to the wall.

Here are a few ways in which both flat cut acrylic and built up 3D acrylic can be used to create a number of different styled logo designs:

raised acrylic logo

Raised flat cut acrylic logo signs

Flat cut acrylic logo signs get their name from the method of production used as the logo is usually cut from a flat sheet of acrylic before each section is mounted to the wall using a raised wall fixing – so in actual fact the logo is still classified as being three dimensional – it’s just not raised off the wall as much as a built up 3D acrylic logo. The depth of the flat cut acrylic used for this style of signage is usually 5-10mm thick, compared to a 3D acrylic logo which is usually 30mm - 100mm thick.

With this style of signage, the logo can be mounted flush to the wall which creates a slightly embossed effect, or it can be raised off the wall by 10mm - 20mm with raised wall fixings.

The acrylic logos are produced in either a standard stock acrylic colour, they can be painted in your desired pantone / RAL colour, or for more complex logo designs they can have digitally printed vinyl applied to the front of the acrylic  – all of which produce a slightly different end product.

3D built up acrylic office logo signs

Fabricated by hand by constructing flat pieces of acrylic together to create chunky three-dimensional signs and logos, the 3D acrylic office logo signs are a superb way of creating more depth to your logo, resulting in a logo which literally jumps out from the wall. The depth of the 3D acrylic logos typically range from about 30mm – 100mm thick depending on the overall width of the logo.

With this method of production, the logo can be mounted to the wall with raised wall brackets which leaves a small gap behind the logo to create a floating effect, or the logo can be mounted flush to the wall. Because each section of the logo is produced with a hollow recessed back, LED lighting can usually be installed inside the letters if illumination is required.

The acrylic logos are produced using a range of pre-coloured acrylics which is a cost effect method of production as the logo doesn’t incur additional paint costs, however if your logo needs to be produced in a specific RAL colour or Pantone colour then we may be limited to choice, in which case it may be best to have the logo produced in a painted metal.

The painted acrylic logos are usually produced in a 10mm thick acrylic however there is the option to have the lettering slightly thicker / thinner if required. The lettering / logs are laser cut from a flat sheet of acrylic to the desired design and then painted in the colour(s) of choice.

With all painted acrylic logos and lettering, the paint used is colour matched to a specific RAL colour or Pantone colour with the option of having either a semi-gloss paint finish, or a matt-satin finish.

The benefit of having the letters painted is so the correct colour finish can be achieved as acrylic usually comes in a range of pre-coloured plastic sheets which aren't always an exact match to the colours used for logos. Painting the logo also ensures that the sides of the logo as well as the face of the logo is the same colour and you have the option of being mounted flush to the wall, or mounted on raised wall fixings.

The acrylic logos with printed vinyl applied to face are usually produced in a 10mm thick acrylic however there is the option to have the lettering slightly thicker or thinner if required. The lettering / logo is laser cut from a flat sheet of white acrylic to the desired design and then a colour printed vinyl is laid onto the face of the logo. A digitally printed design can also be produced with this option.

With the printed acrylic logos the printed vinyl used is colour-matched to a specific CMYK or Pantone colour with the option of having either a semi-gloss or matt laminate applied.

The benefit of having the graphics printed onto vinyl and applied to the white acrylic is that the correct colour finish can be achieved as acrylic usually comes in a range of pre-coloured sheet material which isn’t always a close match to the colours used for logos. Also, complex designs and gradients in colour are best produced when printed. For this method of production, the sides of the logo are usually white which adds a nice effect when mounted to a white wall and you have the option of mounting the logo flush to the wall, or on raised wall fixings.

3D coloured acrylic logo lettering

The 3D built up logos are produced entirely from a single pre-coloured acrylic to create a logo which has the same colour on the front of the logo as the sides to give the impression that the logo is solid and chunky.

The side depth of each letter usually varies between 50mm - 170mm depending on the height of each letter however this can be made deeper or shallower if required.

With this logo design style, internal illumination can be used to illuminate the entire logo, both front and sides of the design, and halo illumination can be added to increase the brightness of the logo when mounted to the wall.

There are a whole range of pre-coloured acrylics which can be used to create the 3D logo as well as opal and semi-translucent acrylic to create different effects.

The 3D acrylic logo or text can be mounted to the wall with raised wall fixings or mounted flush to the surface if required.

Perspex Colours Available

There are a range of Perspex acrylic coloured plastics which can be used to create you logo. If the logo needs to be produced in a particular colour then it's likely that we're able to get a relatively close match using a stock coloured acrylic from the Perspex range. If we're unable to get a close match then the acrylic can be painted to achieve a particular pantone or RAL colour.
